Winter and that’s a Wrap

The remaining two hives have been moved and all three are now wrapped for the coming winter. Our night temperatures are dropping and in the minus 5 celsius range. The bees will be clustering in each hive and keeping warm. All the hives were coated with panels of insulating foam core and then wrapped in tar paper similar to last year. The black paper absorbs the sun during the day and creates a warm barrier surrounding the hive. They may not look pretty but this is what works for us. We hope that once again they survive the winter.
